A large and hardy timber bamboo. New culms are covered with a pastel blue powder for several months before fading to an olive green. Named for Tomitaro Makinoi, a Japanese botanist. So far, it has spread slowly at out nursery near Portland, Oregon. Reportedly in a warmer climates, it will grow quickly and achieve a pretty large size.
