This bamboo has two very beautiful features: the foliage is lightly striped with gold and, even more exciting, there is a fine pin-striping of gold on the culms. This gorgeous bamboo was discovered at the base of a Phyllostachys bambusoides 'Castillon' that had flowered. Unfortunately it is not very cold hardy so anytime the temperature gets below 10F at our nursery, Kawadana suffers dieback of the upper third of the canes. In the right climate it is very decorative.
