Borinda utilis

Max/Avg Height (ft.): 20, 16

Diameter: 1 inch

Hardiness: 10° F

USDA Zones: 8-9, Not recommended for climates with a lot of intense heat or high summer humidity (including most of the southern USA)

One of the most cold hardy Borinda, B. utilis has a fountain shape, with small, feather-like leaves cascading toward the forest floor. The branches have a bright burgundy hue when exposed to direct morning sun. The plant survives lower temperatures, perhaps as low as 5º F, but the youngest canes are damaged when the temperature drops below 20º F. It is a large plant, growing both 20 feet wide and 20 feet tall in a mild climate, but can be pruned to desired width and height.
