Phyllostachys iridescens

Maximum Height: 40+ feet
Diameter: 3.5 inches
Hardiness: -5º F
USDA Zone recommended 6
through 10

Phyllostachys iridescens is one of our largest, fastest growing, and strongest bamboos. The culm walls are very thick and are used for timber. Many of the canes have light yellow striping and a bright white band beneath the node. Some also have graceful bends in the lower internodes. The culm sheaths when the new shoots emerge are a very attractive reddish-brown.  This bamboo would make a nice specimen or grove. The close-up of a large culm was taken at the nursery of our friend Wolfgang Eberts in Carasco, Italy.
