This bamboo has been
listed as a form of I. tessellatus, but hamadae is from Japan and
tessellatus is from China. Hamadae is said to get up to 15 feet tall with
leaves up to two feet long, but so far our plant is only about 5 feet
tall. The leaves also seem shorter than tessellatus. This bamboo will be
exciting if it lives up to its press as a tall hardy bamboo with large
leaves for a tropical look. Let's hope so.
