Fargesia denudata
Xian II
Height: 12 to 14 feet
Diameter: 0.5 inch
Hardiness: -10° F
USDA zone 6 through 9, not
for climates with high heat and humidity (Southeastern states).
Similar shape and form to regular F. denudata
and F. murielae but with longer branches that are burgundy to cherry
red. Rare in the United States. Foliage tends to be more diffuse than
regular F. denudata. Culms are olive green. Like other Fargesias,
it is a clumping bamboo and is happy with some protection from hot afternoon sun. It is mostly suitable
for areas that have the cooling in nighttime hours more common in Northern
states, not in Southern states.
