Questions about ordering bamboo

How do I place my order?

Call us at 503-647-2700 or email us at bamboo@bamboogarden.com for a quote. Also, we will be happy to call you if you provide your phone # and a good time to call. Credit card numbers should not be given through email.

How do I pay?

You can pay via credit card (Visa, MC, and American Express) over the telephone or send a check to our mailing address:
18900 NW Collins Rd,
NORTH PLAINS, OR, 97133.
Please be sure to include your name, a copy of your order, your mailing address, day time phone #, and the total cost for plants and shipping.

How do we ship?

We ship via UPS. If you need or would rather we send packages through a different means, just ask and we will see what we can do. We can use DHL, Delta Airlines, USPS, and Federal Express, but prices may vary. We usually ship UPS Ground but during extreme weather we may use
UPS 3 Day Select or wait for a change in weather. If you have different needs, please let us know and we will do our best to meet your deadline.

How long does it take to receive my order?

See link: transit time. We generally ship by UPS Ground.  It usually takes 2 - 3 days for the west coast and 3 - 4 days going to the more inland western states. It will usually take 5 -7 days to reach the East Coast. We usually ship on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  If the temperatures are severely cold or hot, the plants may be damaged. In that case, we recommend using UPS 3 DAY AIR or waiting until the weather changes.

How much does it cost for shipping?

Here is a link to  UPS Shipping rates. The price is determined by the weight of the package and distance shipped. The zones are according to your region; the farther you are from us in Portland, Oregon, the more expensive the ship rate becomes. For example: East of Illinois will be UPS zone 8. Midwest is usually zone 7. The southern states east of Texas are zone 8. West of the Rockies is UPS Zone 2 through 6. California is UPS zone 2 (Northern) through zone 5 (farther south). Western Washington state and all of Oregon is considered UPS zone 2. If you are unclear please ask, and we will gladly help you figure in which UPS zone you live.

Are the bamboo shipments guaranteed?

YES, We spend a great deal of time selecting the best plants possible from our inventory, and guarantee they arrive in healthy condition. The bamboo are well grown in plastic nursery containers, the base wrapped in plastic and secured to a shipping box with strapping tape. They travel very well and each year we receive many compliments on our packaging system. Most of the time they arrive in great condition, although spending a long time in transit can be stressful for plants, and in some cases they will show minor signs of stress. This is natural and nothing to be concerned about, they will perk up in a few days to a couple of weeks. If you order bamboo in the winter or very early spring, please recognize that some species naturally defoliate up to 50% of their leaves in the winter and may look a little ragged until they put on a flush of new growth; again, this is natural and nothing to worry about. If the plant deteriorates in health and perishes due to apparent stress of shipping and handling, or any other  factor within our responsibility, we will either replace the plant, send a full refund, or reach a reasonable agreement.  Our guarantee is valid for three months from the date the plant is received.

We do not guarantee plants that perish due to customer neglect or factors outside our responsibility. The most common factors being: 1) Forgetting to water the plant when necessary.  2) Extreme heat or cold.  3) Choosing a plant that is not hardy for a specific climate; we try to recommend the best plant for each customer, and warn those who choose a plant that may be risky for their climate.  However, sometimes one may order a bamboo not suitable for their area and we do not notice their error. Please be sure the bamboo you desire is appropriate for your climate or sunlight exposure. We specialize in personal service and our experienced sales staff are here to assist you in finding the best bamboo for your situation.  Most bamboo are versatile and grow well in a wide range of climates.  TEMPERATE CLUMPING BAMBOO (except for those in the genus
Bambusa) are not appropriate plants for hot, southern climates, or for full sun exposure in northern climates.

Can I order early and specify a later date for shipping?

Yes, we can ship when you would like. Most often, the order is paid for up front, as we collect the bamboo to a special holding area in the green house, where they safely await their pre arranged ship date. At the ship date we call each customer to notify that the plant has is on its way. Please inquire if you would like us to email a UPS tracking number.

Which bamboos will grow in severe cold temperatures?

Some types can width stand winter lows of -20 F. Look at the our Landscape Use page to guide you in the selection of cold hardy bamboo .  Also see the Hardiness List. Make sure the sun exposure will work for the plants you select. Most of the cold-hardy clumping bamboos need afternoon shade.
